You might feel worried or unsure about starting counselling and sometimes just making the decision to ask for help can feel like a big, scary step. Counselling can help you become more in touch with yourself and the relationships that are important to you. It can help you shed light on why you are feeling the way you are and work towards any desired changes.
My experience of my counselling relationship with Katy was an extremely positive one. Katy made me feel at ease at all times and created a safe and supportive space where I felt I could share anything on my mind. I looked forward to each session as I knew I would come away with a fresh perspective on any challenges or issues I was facing. L.H
When you tell me about you, it helps me understand what it is like being you. I am not a friend or a family member; I am here to listen to you as it comes; unfiltered. Part of my role is to reflect back what I see and hear and to offer a different perspective. You could say that I am like a facilitator of your relationship with yourself. Sometimes people tell me, "I never thought of it like that" - this allows you see with fresh eyes. This insight can allow things to shift and change. You can move from a place of feeling anxious, sad, confused and not being able to see a way out, to finding some clarity on why you got here and together we can explore how you would like that to be different.
Sometimes I found myself saying out loud some things I've never said before and with Katy's input it gave me something to think about each week, about how I see things and why that might be. C.A
As a counsellor, I was drawn into therapeutic world having supported young people with a variety of special needs for 10 years. I wanted to nurture the unique and special nature of that one to one relationship. I am passionate about the benefits of talking therapy. In my mind, there is nothing more powerful than two people sitting opposite each other in a room; one person being truly listened to, without judgement or criticism.
